At Lester Glenn, the customer is in control.
Lester Glenn moved from Red Bank, NJ to Toms River and founded Lester Glenn Buick in 1956. The original location was on Flint Road in South Toms River. The showroom was only large enough for one car and the service department had space for three cars. Seven months later, the dealership moved to a new showroom on Route 37 where it remained until 1978. During those twenty years, the dealership flourished and new car sales climbed from 50 per year to 1000 per year.
In 1966, Mr. Glenn, my father-in-law, asked me to join the company and in 1972 I became a partner and manager of operations. In 1978 we moved our operations to the present GM facility. Lester Glenn died in 1984 at which time my wife, Sarann, and I took over ownership of the dealership.
Lester Glenn Buick acquired the Isuzu franchise in 1986 and the Subaru franchise in 1992. Hyundai was acquired in 1997, Pontiac in 1998, and GMC in 1999. In 2002 we opened our second location - coincidentally, on the same site as the one we had moved from in 1978 - and separated our import brands from our GM brands.
In September of 2006, my son, Adam, joined the Lester Glenn team as General Manager. Shortly after Adam’s arrival, we moved Subaru to its own location on Route 9 where we also have a full-service, state-certified body shop. Our second Hyundai store, Hyundai of Manahawkin located at 551 Route 72, Manahawkin, opened in May 2009.
In May 2010 we acquired the Mazda franchise and opened a new Mazda/Subaru store on Route 37 after moving Subaru from Route 9. This allowed us to expand our body shop on Route 9 and establish a special location for quality, pre-owned vehicles selling for $10,000 or less - Lester Glenn Under 10!
In October of 2010 we opened our most ambitious project to date. Our Toms River Hyundai store moved to a new, state-of-the-art showroom and service facility which is four times as big as its previous home. The vacated Hyundai store has now become a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram store shortly after.
I am very proud of all that my father-in-law, Lester, accomplished. I understood and adopted his philosophy and mission - focus on the customers and aim for their complete satisfaction. It is the key to our success. Now my son, Adam, is continuing the legacy and taking our organization to a new level. However, the focus of the past continues to be the focus of the future - exceeding the expectations of every customer so that they will be our customer "for life"!
